I’ve gone back to SJB Chorale… Yep, I will be, again, busy with singing, will be having sweaty palms and weak knees. Nervousness will be as frequent as everyday coffee. I am excited and challeged to learn new songs, tough pieces I can only dream of singing, and yet, also hesistant in singing these, knowing that they are not for the “church”.
You see, I left the group 3 or 4 years ago because they were steering into directions of “fame” and “recognition” which, being an avid bukas palad fan, I was not particularly interested in. I was more into Church songs. We had, a sort-of, falling-out with the choirmaster. We were friends but we have different views on leading the group. I was the Coordinator at that time. Half of the old members left because they shared what I thought the group should focus on, mainly church service. Don’t get me wrong, they didn’t forget their service to God but their focus was on other things, competitions, tours, concerts. Still, I remained an avid fan, because I was friends with most of the them and of the choirmaster and, they were really good. The way we sounded before was far from what they sounded now, almost poles-apart.
So, I’m back, due to insistent (not really) demand of a friend/member and the chance to tour with them next in Canada (hehehe..ulterior motive, my family is there!). Inspite of the things I still see, echoes of the what happened in the past, I still believe that group will rise above it. For in the end, i am still their biggest fan…
